Amy Yuhas of Falls was appointed to the Tunkhannock Area School Board to fill a position left vacant by the resignation in August of Martin Migliori.
Yuhas, who has three children in the district, and Paul Lupinski, who resides in Northmoreland Twp. and has two children in the district, were interviewed in a public meeting Thursday.
Following about 10 questions posed to each candidate, board president Mick Cronin asked for nominations from the floor.
Board member Bill Weidner nominated Lupinski, but his approval failed 4-3, with Don Nowells absent.
Yuhas’s name was then put forward, and she was elected by a 5-2 vote.
Cronin said both candidates were strong and he hoped they would engage in a write-in candidacy for a 4-year position that is open on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Yuhas’ term expires at the end of November, and the person elected Nov. 5 will take a seat at the Dec. 5 reorganization meeting.
